One of the most magical free experiences you can enjoy during your Big Bear cabin stay is waiting for you right in the heart of Big Bear Village — Sidewalk Astronomy! On select evenings throughout 2026, the Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society sets up powerful telescopes near the entrance of Barrel 33 on Village Drive and invites everyone to peer through and discover the wonders of the night sky above Big Bear Lake!
At 6,700 feet elevation with minimal light pollution, Big Bear Lake is one of the absolute best stargazing destinations in all of Southern California. The Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society brings their expertise and equipment right to the Village so that everyone — from curious kids to passionate astronomy enthusiasts — can experience the breathtaking beauty of the Big Bear night sky up close through a professional telescope.
Look for stars, planets, galaxies, and more as knowledgeable society members guide you through what you are seeing. It is a truly awe-inspiring experience that the whole family will love and one of those uniquely Big Bear moments that you simply cannot get anywhere else. Best of all it is completely free — just show up and look up!
